Yesterday I had a very good Sunday morning, Hot Yoga with Lee Szee, then, a good lunch meeting with Lee Szee and Selena, very yummy Italian spaghetti. The chatting session is good.
Sunday night I didn’t have a good sleep. Why?! Is because “WORK”!!!!!! A stupid job and silly job (that what user comments last 2 weeks in front of me) make me think am I useless? The more I stay in this company, the more I feel myself slowly getting into a “old” people thought. L ya! I got tons of work, but, I think all this work is rubbish work, that just no ump to kick me up. :s is my problem or company problem, sometime I confuse.
Then, I think if 10 years after, would I still stay at this company???!!!! Ya! When I thrown this question to my colleagues, a lot of people will tell me “NO!” but, is it every company almost the same? Politic, boring work, nasty user etc. and how we going to ensure that we will move out from this company? New blood is so aggressive, IT line is so compete, thing is changing so fast, management is just a person who know how to talk, politic is just a place when you want to move up to higher bullshit place. Then my question is if 10 years after, would I still stay at the current rank? So, after 10 years, means I’m 40 years old, so, do I still think I can move out from this company? NO!!!! I think that time I will think “nevermind, is half of my life already” then, I will stay at this company forever?!
Then you will ask, “Hey! That is still a lot of company out there. Move out!” then, I will think is that what I want? Every company isn’t looking the same? Or should I move out from IT line? MONEY?!!! ya! I think is money problem then. Everyone is so comfort at one environment, and the money for our basic need.
Some people will think, “you will be changed while you have kid” then, I will think that what I don’t want, because of kid, so, we think everything is can stay as what as it, or we shouldn’t enjoy what we should enjoy? Everyday we have 8 hours in our work, if we cannot get something that enrich our life, then, something might be wrong, right? Kid will grow, and one day they no need you to accompany them, then, what I can do? Sometime friend will think I think too much! oh! ya! I think so, maybe I think too far, just because I don’t want to avoid it, and let thing happened, then, we will said “No choice lah, have to work lor, what to do?”
OK. I think maybe is Monday blue, that make me think so much! anyway, is just a thought to share, maybe someone can share more to me. or, should I say “that is life?!” - Alison

It’s just a thought to share…
I guess is pretty simple, everyone has a different purpose in life, it depends what you need and what you want. This purpose in life varies at various stages of life. For instance, when you first started in workforce, you will be very committed, work full force, do not mind the late nights and pay, all you wanted is to learn more and get the exposure. Few years later, when you have the knowledge and expertise, you want to move up the corporate ladder and earn more. Subsequently, when you are so tired of the working hours and work life, all you wanted is to have a balanced lifestyle. You just want a stable job, fix working hours and reasonable pay so you can have time for your family, and enjoy your life doing things u always wanted to do.
Politics is everywhere, I guess we cannot avoid, it just depends on how severe it is…We may not wanna get involved, but at times we just have to get along with it.
As for myself, work wise, I still like vendor env, project base, and you have an objective to achieve. When you have completed and implemented the proj, you feel sense of achievement. Well of course in proj, we have to compromise our TIME! That’s why, I have switched from vendor to end user, to take a breather. Now I’m getting bored too, coz the job nature is supporting existing application and doing enhancement, it’s pretty routine. However, I have more time for myself and get to do things that I like, e.g. DIVING!! Hahaha…so I guess end of day, it depends on what we want at certain stages of life, and is always give and take and try to strike a balance. Nothing in life is perfect, we need to learn to let go at times. Instead of drilling into the problems, sometimes you can see a bigger picture if you take a step back. Then you will realise, things are not as complicated as you think.
So do not put too much stress to yourself, if you really hated the job so much, then why not start looking for other opps? There is no right and wrong, if you do not take a step out, you will never know what happen next. So, if you are not happy with this current job, then whether the next one is a good job, you still stand a 50% chance, you have nothing to lose!
So my dear friend, my advice is, do not put too much stress to yourself…not to mention now you have more important thing to focus at, which is your WEDDING!! So, take it one at a time

Hahhaa… ya! Sound cool~~ thanks for sharing, I think we gained though the same thing together, vendor, end user, to strike the work like balance, step back might be a good suggestion, to see the bigger picture. Agreed on the point is that I have more time to enjoy whatever I can do now. Human always is greedy, and just keep thinking how to get “what I want”, and not “what we can compromise”. When we lost something, we found out that is precious, else, we will keep complaining about what we have now. :s
50% of try in the next opportunity, ya, I thought of that too. Maybe next year, one step at the time, actually I have the plan this year and next year, example wedding, travel, learning my music etc. just human like to complain, although complaint cannot make thing perfect, but, it make ppl feel good sometime. **don’t scold lah**
Thanks for sharing anyway!

You have your own talent and you are working on your dream now. I think maybe you are not sure at this time as to what you want to do but you have taken the first step to do what you like, to change how you want to live your life and the way that you wish it to be. What is important is to continue to work on your dream where one day you will have your own piano school.
Work is never ending and we should take life easy and do what we can and enjoy the rest of the time. Work should stay in office. Anything that you cannot finish today, leave it for tomorrow. Choice is always ours but it is only how we want to chose it.
You know there is one person call hubby that you can always talk to and you know where to find him.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think peer pressure especially in Asia is one main contribution. Everyone has different dreams and some people just wanna be a manager right from the start because it sounds top and glamorous. This is a common mindset which leads people into unwanted rat race. But at the end of the day, I dun see what has been achieved in other aspects of life. Not being able to be a manager by an old age does not mean there is lack of achievement. So far, I’m in the most political and competitive company in the past 10 years. When you are in it, you would think that being a manager here would be great but not at all. Once you get to realise that there are other opportunities for advancement (career and self) and the diversity among cultures, you would learn that nothing is more important than doing what is most satisfactory and respectable in both work and life. I’ve also learned that being a knowledge expert is more sought after than a pure manager
